In Manila port, P10 million worth of sugar seized

An estimated P10 billion worth of white sugar was seized at the Manila port on Monday, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said.
The confiscated goods were shipped in nine containers from China and were declared as "steel tube scaffolding," BOC said.
The BOC issued an alert order on the shipment after it was filed and paid entry at the "foodstuff and beverage" section. Inspection showed that the shipment contained refined white sugar from Malaysia.
The consignee, Lucky Sapphire Trading, was also found to have paid only P535,330 for shipment, BOC said.
Earlier, Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon announced that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in his office and that the public will be allowed to watch his every move.
Cameras will be installed first in his office. Other frontline offices will follow.
"By next week, you can now view me in my office, in my conference rooms and everywhere that’s within the Office of the Commissioner, so I’ll set an example on the setting up of the CCTVs," he said.
Online monitoring and video footage review will be available starting next week.
