ABS-CBN and SM to carry Duterte's anti-drug ads for free
President Rodrigo Duterte's first public service announcements (PSAs) on the dangers of illegal drug use, will be shown for free by SM Cinema and media giant ABS-CBN Corporation, MalacaƱang said Sunday.
Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the PSAs were created by award-winning director Brillante Mendoza, who earlier supervised the cinematography of Duterte's first State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Andanar said four of the anti-drug ads are 30-seconds long while another two lasts for two and half minutes.
According to Andanar, SM Cinemas has committed to show the longer ads in its 300 theaters nationwide.
ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III and his sister, Environment Secretary Gina Lopez, meanwhile, have promised to air the 30-second ads for free.
Andanar said Mendoza rendered his services for the ad, pro bono.
"Alam po natin na kapag nagpapagawa ng isang 30-seconder 'yung mga malalaking ahensya ay umaabot po ang gastos ng halos apat na milyon ang isang 30-seconder. Napaka-mahal niyan," he said.
[We know that big agencies spend about P4 milyon for a 30-secoder ad. That's too expensive. ]
"Pero, ang magandang balita ay ni singkong duling ay hindi po tayo siningil ni direktor Brillante Mendoza sa apat na 30-seconder na kanyang ginawa at ito po ay world-class."
[But the good news is Brillante Mendoza did not charge even a single cent for his four world-class, 30-seconder ads.]
Andanar said he has yet to talk with television networks GMA-7 and TV-5 regarding the PSAs, but he is confident that they will also support the ads.
State-run Radyo ng Bayan will air an audio version of the anti-drug advertisement which may also be carried by the Brigada Network, Radio Mindanao Network and Manila Broadcasting Company.
